good evening everyone. i'm surae chinn. produce produce johnson is off tonight -- bruce johnson is off tonight. another is recovering from serious gunshot wounds to his stomach this evening. happening around 4 this afternoon. the allege shooter is also a student. we have been following this story and we have more on the victims and the crime, armando? >> reporter: two members of the babble team was shut earl -- basketball team was shot earlier this morning in an argument. the victim, the 20-year-old, brandon michael carol of waldorf maryland, died on the

scene from gunshot wounds to his abdomen. the other victim, the 21-year- old of southeast dc. he is expected to survive, according to family members we spoke to. but they were too upset to go on camera. police say that both basketball players were shot by the 21- year-old tyrone brent hall who is also a student at the university. he fired two rounds after the basketball players and possibly others went to his home to confront him over an earlier incident at an offcampus party. they accused him of assaulting someone at that party. meanwhile, the university has released good statements. the entire university community saddened and shocked by this incident. and we will feel the loss of brandon carol deeply. our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in hopes for his full recovery.

after the shooting hall remained in his home. charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder. and no word if alcohol or drugs were involved in the party. the investigation is still going. >> thank you for that report. in other news, there may be some light at the end of the ashville tunnel. the european union says that they could happen to 50% of the normal levels flights have been grounded for days after the affects of the ash on airplane engines. terrell brown begins our coverage. >> reporter: test flights took of skies as they look for ways to get them safely back into air. they did not report any problems after flying mostly below the giant cloud of the volcanic ash. some flights may resume on monday. >> if they will be flying like

blue, and u.s. air announced they will not spirit spirit airline's lead. recently announced plans to charge up to $45 for each bag placed in the overhead bins. that prompted several senators to pursue laws to tax airlines that charge these new fees. today, one of those lawmakers says that the pledge by other airlines not to impose carry-on fees is good news. >> it is very, very good news. >> senator schumer hopes that spirit airlines will change its mind about charging the fee for carry-on bags. and he says he still plans to pursue legislation that would make it illegal. new information tonight about a delaware pediatrician accused of molesting more than 100 patients. hospital officials say they investigated a report in 1996,

that dr. earl bradley touched young female patients inappropriately. the news journal reports that a nurse complained of the medical center about the way that bradley obtained urine samples from young girls. she says bradley needed girls to undress before exams and hugged and kissed patients. they initially withheld facts about bradley because they didn't want to jeopardize the case. pope benedict is back in rome after an emotional meeting with sex abuse victims. the pope met for more than a half hour with eight men saying they were abused with four priests when they were living in a catholic orphanage. one of the popes had tears in his eyes and everybody was crying. pope benedict promised the church would do all in their power to bring the guilty to justice and protect the young. an iranian hosted

conference ended today with a demand that israel join the nonprolific treaty. the two-day conference follows the 47 nation nuclear conference hosted by the president barack obama here in washington last week. and that summit excluded iran and north korea. nasa says rain could delay the space shuttle's return to earth. discovery is scheduled to land tomorrow morning in florida after the two-week mission. the shuttle has enough supplies to remain in orbit until wednesday. still ahead on 9news now. a mishap with the police car traveling and president obama's motorcade. >> and the country's biggest star. ♪ [ music ] we'll tell you why fans are playing a role in the music awards tonight. we'll be right back. q

welcome back. poland said farewell to president lech kaczynski today at a state funeral. mourners applauded and chanted, we thank you, as the casket buried lech kaczynski and his wife, maria. the final resting place will be in the cathedral. 94 other people died eight days ago when their plane crashed as they flew to russia. a motorcycle flies into a police car traveling in

president obama's motorcade. the white house said it happened saturday as the motorcade made its way along this route, taking the president to the daughter's soccer game. the motorcycle slid into the last car in the motorcade. no one was hurt. the 45th annual country music award is less than two hours away. country music's biggest stars are gathered in las vegas, in thety vised event. and for the performances, fans will choose the winners and the two key categories. entertainer of the year, the top new artist. reba macken tire will host the award -- mcintire will host the award show for two times a year. >> we're having a blast here in vegas. >> this isn't the olympics. this isn't the gold medal thing. this is the celebration of country music. >> fans will also pick a song that country legend will play in their final acm performance.

yes, unfortunately, we have had some cooler temperatures. a lot colder today than yesterday. and on top of that, some cloud cover i was not expecting to come in. i'll show you such a fine line of the clouds as to why we got them in. but hey, there is some sunshine

on the way. it will make for a nice day. back into the mid-60s for most. i'll squeeze this to the mid to upper 60s here in washington. tuesday, 71, before some clouds late in the day as you'll see. milder day. even on wednesday, they are turning out to be an okay day. there could be some rain coming in. and i have updated that. temperatures expecting more cloud cover coming in. just made the changes yet to update that graphic. but we'll get to it here shortly. partly to mostly cloudy skies here. and we'll show you the clouds, built in. still breezy. temperatures, falling through the 50s into the 40s in many cases. and overnight, we clear out all these clouds. it will be a downright cold night. the time of the year, freezing below cases. 28 degrees in some community that are out west. we'll see a lot of this into the 30s tonight. the northwest breeze. 10 miles per hour. maybe a little less. the frost advisories in the freeze warnings. for many areas, we'll show you exactly where coming up too. and the freezing mark, pushing through the 30s and the lower 40s. tomorrow afternoon, finally, we'll get the winds, 10 to 15,

mid-morning to the mid-day. they will die down in the afternoon. allow us to get into the mid to upper 50s i think in some cases. here is our warnings and the advisories. and there you see it. as youd head over towards fairfax county, parts of louden county, that is a frost advisory. it turns to a freeze warning the further west you go. parts of the valley area, getting freeze warnings. and about freezing for tonight. we'll show you the satellite and the radar imagery. and we were just on the southern fringe of the little low if you will. and the weak upper level system, rolling through the main storm and exiting the northeast. watch as that rotates around. getting the clouds here. if you just went a little further south of washington, the bright sunny skies. temperatures in the mid-60s. and especially in northern virginia and the advisories.

they will get to a little cloud cover by wednesday and the weak storm system and they get us the first shot of the return of the light rain and the showers during wednesday, holding us down a couple of degrees. downtown, we're only 40 degrees. a lot of 30s started to show themselves depending on where you are. even at freezing levels. virginia, right around 60 as we go through your high temperatures. monday, we'll definitely see the high temperatures. a nice game. mild, sunny, 64 degrees. the zone forecast, showing up, even into the elevations out west. we're returning with the sunny skies and temperatures back into the 60s. the seven-day forecast. there is the first shot of the rain returning with the light showers on wednesday. again, very light rain on wednesday. even thursday into friday morning. the next significant shot of the scattered thunderstorms. un. if gnatly, holding off until next weekend. we warm up. temperatures back into the 80s with the numerous scattered showers and thunderstorms. in the next few days, the sunny skies. starting to warm up the rain chances. >> all right, looking for the
